KANDY THE HEART OF SRILANKA 💚

The dramatic and romantic hill capital of Sri Lanka, Kandy, is located 115 kilometers inland from Colombo. The route to Kandy is enthralling, pulsating with green and silver in the most effulgent luxuriance. The roads curve sharply, offering views below of waterfalls, abysses, deep valleys, and terraced paddy fields patterned in emerald. The mountains rise majestically against the blue sky on the opposite side. It's an incredible sight, too beautiful for words to describe, whether one looks up or down.                                                                                                                                                


A stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site is Kandy. Like this, a stunning paradise, this is where Sri Lanka really is. Loved by both domestic and international travelers, Kandy is a special natural wonder. Kandy's numerous tourist attractions raise the city's worth. The city is home to tea estates,waterfalls, cultural sites, and World Heritage sites.

Kandy is a city rich in culture, religion, history, and the environment. I've tried to provide a quick overview of some of the tourist attractions in the Kandy city area below.


Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of Tooth Relic) and Esala perahara

The Temple of the Tooth is among the locations that spring to mind when you hear the name Kandy. This is the location of the coffin containing the Buddha's tooth relic, which is considered the crown jewel of Sri Lankan Buddhism. This can be characterized as a revered religious site that is well-liked and respected by both domestic and foreign visitors. Around this, a vast culture has developed. The temple hosts poojas for the tooth relic three times a day. These are the three poojas: the morning, noon, and evening ones. The public was able to see the Tooth Relic back then.

The Temple of the Tooth is also among Kandy's oldest structures. Situated in a picturesque setting, this is the palace of Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, the final monarch of Sri Lanka. On three sides, it is encircled by the Kandy Lake, the Udawatte Forest, and the city of Kandy. Numerous historic structures, including Satara Devalaya, Ulpengeya, Asgiriya Temple, and Malwatta Temple, are located nearby.

Another cultural event centered around the Temple of the Tooth is the Kandy Esala Perahera. The most prestigious and unique performing arts festival in Sri Lanka is called Dalada Perahera.  Kandy gains a distinct charm from this perahera, which has gained immense global fame. August marks the month of the Esala Perahera. Since ancient times, this procession has been held as a gift to the Tooth Relic. In addition to many drummers and dancing craftspeople, there are many elephants in the procession. Ten days of the procession through the city's streets are planned. There are numerous unique cultural aspects of Sri Lanka in this perahera. It is obvious that the Kandy Esala Perahera is an event that every traveler to Kandy should not miss.
 
Udawaththa Rain forest & Hanthana Mountain Range

Kandy is a natural masterpiece. For travelers who enjoy both mountains and forests Numerous tourist spots in the metropolitan area of Kandy. One such location is the rain forest of Udawaththa. A small rain forest called Udawatte Forest is located close to Kandy. There is a Kandy Municipal Council close to the access road. Here you can find a wide variety of bird species, butterflies, deer, reptiles, and monkeys. There are rumors that King Rajasinghe once had a garden here. There are numerous ponds and other extremely pure water sources in the area. Situated in an incredibly serene and picturesque setting, this forest transports its visitors to a different realm. However, it's crucial to keep in mind to avoid leeches when visiting this area.


Tourists interested in mountaineering will love the Hanthana Mountain Range. One of Kandy's most breathtaking mountain ranges is the Hanthana Range.It is situated above the urban area. There are five peaks on it. This is an adventure-loving person's must-see. Nature enthusiasts should definitely visit the Hanthana mountain range and the Udawatha rain forest.
 


There are a lot of other locations that can be mentioned as tourist attractions. Among them is Kandy Lake.  This lake, which is close to the palace, enhances the city's natural beauty. The lake is about 3 km long, and in the evening a lot of tourists can be seen strolling around it. Additionally, the city center is home to a large number of historical sites. such as the Lawyers Building, the Red Mosque, the Satharamha Devala, the Bahirawakanda, the St. Paul Church, the Queen's Hotel, the Bogambara Prison, the National Museum of Kandy, the Kandy Railway Station, and the Kandy Central Market.





There are a lot of unique tourist spots in Kandy, which will provide visitors with many unforgettable experiences. Thus, is this not Sri Lanka's capital city?
